WHERE WERE YOU BORN?

Charleston, West Virginia

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN CHARLOTTE AREA?

Four years

TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?

I grew up in Sissonville, West Virginia, a small town outside of Charleston, WV. I have been an athlete my whole life, playing volleyball, basketball, and track and field. I competed in AAU and USA Track and Field meets all over the country in middle school and high school winning 3 national championships and I received a full athletic scholarship to West Virginia University for high jumping! I qualified for the NCAA National Championship 3 years during my career and graduated WVU with my bachelor’s degree.

After graduation I went back to nursing school to become a nurse anesthetist and started helping people with their fitness routines in my spare time in West Virginia. Not having much luck with helping people with their fitness there, I got a summer job between nursing school semesters here in Charlotte at Fitness Connection as a personal trainer and studied to become a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer while I worked here. I thought this was something I would be good at and I could make some money with to help myself with nursing school tuition. After a couple weeks here in Charlotte as a personal trainer I quickly realized that this summer job was not just a summer job, but it was what I was truly passionate about and where I truly felt like I was fulfilling my purpose. I didn’t go back to WV to start year 2 of nursing school and quickly established myself as a fitness professional and influencer here in Charlotte, a city where 4 years ago I didn’t know a single person. My fiancé is a mastermind at videography and photography and we work really hard on presenting high quality social media posts and videos for my digital programs on my website! I have been able to grow my fitness business and I have my own personal training studio, I have digital fitness and nutrition programs on my website like my 30 Day Transformation Program, I have my own videography studio where I film and upload full length workouts every day to my YouTube channel which has over 4000 subscribers and over 1 million minutes viewed, and I have been blessed to host numerous charity fitness events here in our city!

DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORIAL MOMENT?

My most memorable moment when doing a community event was Action Hero and I was given the opportunity to host a “Run Your Own 5k” in Charlotte to raise money for their partnering charity RUN10FEED10 which donates 10 meals to the hungry in your city for every person who registers for the run! I hosted the event at Lenny Boy and had several local vendors set up for the runners after they finished their run. When the run was over, Women’s Health emailed me to let me know that we hosted the biggest Run10Feed10 5k in the entire country and we were able to give almost 1000 meals to the hungry here in Charlotte! I was so proud of our community for pulling together to give back to this city!

IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY?

In 2015 I started hosting free boot camps during the summers for Charlotte residents at local parks and I quickly came to realize how passionate this city is about fitness and community. I have always tried to give back as much as I can to this community because this city is where I feel like I grew into exactly who I was meant to be!

I am also a Beers and Burpees ambassador which is a charity fitness event that raises money for Dream on 3, a local non-profit granting wishes for children with disabilities.

I have been able to host other charity boot camps to support people in our community as well including a dear friend Jessica Morrel who fought for her life after a traumatic accident and local news anchor Coach Lamonte as his son just recently started his battle with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

I was also able to make a $1,000 donation to the Charlotte Rescue mission as they rebuilt their men’s recovery facility’s gym and donate school supplies to children at Allenbrook Elementary School both resulting from collections at boot camps that I hosted!

Lastly, I have a YouTube channel that I post free workout videos to every day as my way to give back. I genuinely feel that fitness should be accessible to everyone no matter how much money they can spend on their fitness or where they are in comparison to a gym!

PLEASE LET US KNOW ANY AWARDS OR RECOGNITIONS YOU’VE RECEIVED IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL CAREER:

I was offered and accepted the role of Action Hero from Women’s Health magazine this past year! I was notified in June 2017 and in September of 2017 I hosted the largest Run10Feed10 Run of all the Run Your Own Runs in the entire country!

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OR INTEREST?

My hobbies and interests mostly revolve around fitness! I like working out in new places, researching new fitness studies, and being outside with my dog, a pound rescue named Moxie! I also love music, so I really enjoy going to concerts with my fiancé!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE THAT YOU STAND BY?

My favorite quote is Never Give Up. The story behind my love for this quote started after a gym from my hometown (CrossFit Never Give Up) asked me to do an interview for them talking about a time I “never gave up.” I was going to write about moving to a new city and growing in the fitness industry here, but on June 10th, 2017 my little brother was in a tragic ATV accident. I traveled to Charleston, West Virginia to be with him in the hospital and the gym asked me to stop by and take a couple pictures in their gym for the interview. They knew about my brother’s accident and gave me a Never Give Up shirt to give to my brother during what was going to be a long road to recovery. That next day, after a two-week battle, my little brother passed away from his traumatic brain injury. I feel like I was meant to go to the gym and get the Never Give Up shirt that day and that my brother’s message to me was to Never Give Up. I hold this saying true to my heart and recite it daily in honor of him and the strength he has instilled in me.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS? 10 YEARS?

I constantly fall more and more in love with Charlotte and I do not see myself anywhere else! I love the community feel of the city and I cannot wait to get married to my fiancé here and raise a family here. I am still just as excited every day when I wake up to train my personal training clients and go to my studio to film workouts that I can share with the entire world (my YouTube channel has been viewed in over 95% of the world!) I love being able to work every day with my fiancé who just left his job as a CPA and is now a full-time videographer and photographer who does all of my YouTube channel filming and editing, all of my digital online programs as well as his own projects! I hope to continue to grow in the fitness industry, so I can continue to help more and more people focus on their fitness and their own health. I hope my personality and passion always shine through in my pursuit of helping people because I want this healthy lifestyle to be fun and sustainable for people of all ages all over the world!

CAN YOUR SHARE ONE THING THAT IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?

One thing on my bucket list is the visit Sydney, Australia!

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU USED YOUR PASSPORT?

I used my passport on a graduation present trip to Aruba after college!

WHAT IS A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT NO ONE KNOWS?

Something that most people don’t know about me is that in between all my sporting events, I grew up raising market animals and showing them at a county fair back home in West Virginia! I raised lambs and pigs, but pigs were (and still are) my favorite animal!

WHO IS YOUR HERO?

My hero is my little brother. He was a United States Marine and he was the epitome of a strong, hard working man. He was an amazing son, brother, husband, and father, and always had a big mischievous smile on his face. He did what had to be done to support his family and he was so loyal to his friends and his loved ones. I lost him last year after an ATV accident, but he still finds ways to show up in my life and remind me to keep pushing, remain strong, and never give up.
