WHERE WERE YOU BORN?

East London, South Africa

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN CHARLOTTE AREA?

11 years

TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?

I was born and raised in a little town in South Africa called King Williams Town. I came to Charlotte in 2008 to study at UNC Charlotte and studied systems and industrial engineering. I’ve worked in various industries, but quickly realized being stuck in a corporate environment in a cube wasn’t for me. I’ve always been an entrepreneur by heart and enjoyed in investing directly into small local businesses. One of my first investments in Charlotte includes 204 North Kitchen and Cocktails, located in center city Charlotte. When it comes to business and investing, its two things that take up a vast amount of my time. When I’m not working, I spend a lot of time focusing on health and fitness. I’m father to a black cocker spaniel that I adopted over 4 years ago, where my first dog became my first seven dogs! That’s right, she ended up having six puppies when I adopted her!

DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST
MEMORABLE MOMENT?

This is a tough one! I always feel like there is a special moment at almost every event. I don’t keep any specific area in my scope when it comes to charities; I love to give back! I donate to several charities including the Wounded Warrior Project, St Judes Children Research Hospital, The Foundation for Fighting Blindness, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Dream on 3, Urban Promise Charlotte, and Curefinders. I was one of the top sponsors recently for two local charities, Dream on 3 and Urban Promise Charlotte, raising over $62,000 for them. It’s always touching to hear from the people you’re helping. I have a close coworker, Mark Curley, who recently went into experimental surgery for his eyesight. Unfortunately, Mark was born with a very rare disease that causes you to lose your eyesight and ultimately go blind. After many years of supporting Mark and The Foundation for Fighting Blindness, he was sent in for this surgery earlier this month and is looking like he is having very positive results!

IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY? PLEASE BE AS DETAILED AS YOU CAN.

I believe that there are many ways an individual can give back to their community. I like to take several of those
approaches where I’ve volunteered my time, helped spur economic growth through my career, and supported various
charities through generous donations. I don’t think anyone can deny the explosive growth that has gone on in Charlotte
over the past several years. This kind of growth has to be supported with the proper building materials and labor force to
push such a momentous change. My career, simply, focuses around selling parts that make big rocks into small rocks of
various sizes. These small rocks produce products such as concrete, roof singles, granite, glass, gold, iron, silver, and they
are also used in recycling. I try really hard to push investments into Charlotte from 204 North to real estate. As I said
above, I also participate in various local charities.

PLEASE LET US KNOW ANY AWARDS OR RECOGNITIONS YOU’VE RECEIVED IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL CAREER:

As an entrepreneur, I’m not known for patting myself on the back. For me, there are simply goals. I achieve them. Done.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OR INTEREST?

I love Spartan Races and traveling, the two go hand in hand. I ended up running 50 Spartan Races in 2017 and was able to travel all around the world.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE THAT YOU STAND BY?

Fortune favors the bold.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS? 10 YEARS?

The future is a very difficult thing to predict and often you can only steer yourself in the right direction. The details normally work themselves out. The business environment over the next 5-10 years is going to be unrecognizable. So right now, I want to focus heavily on future proofing my businesses and investments as much as humanly possible. I’d like to be able to travel freely and continue to grow as a person while widening my horizons. The goal later down the line is to focus more on giving back and mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs.

CAN YOUR SHARE ONE THING THAT IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?

I’m kicking the bucket and taking a trip into outer space! Being able to stand on the moon would be surreal and mind-blowing experience.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU USED YOUR PASSPORT?

I just went to Germany and China a couple months ago! I have Greece planned in October. My passport sees a lot of action!

WHAT IS A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT NO ONE KNOWS?

Besides my parents and close family, no one knows that I was born as a miracle baby. The doctors in South Africa said that there was almost no chance of me surviving and I’ve more than survived over the years!

WHO IS YOUR HERO?

Hands down Elon Musk, he is such a great role model in building companies that can truly change the planet for the better. Also, the fact that he was born South African is also a plus for me!

WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU READ?

Relentless by Tim Grover. Amazing book! I had the pleasure of meeting Tim Grover in Vegas. Tim Grover was Michael Jordans trainer and his book pushes hard on mental toughness and grit that can be used by anyone in all areas of your life.

WHAT WAS THE LAST MOVIE YOU SAW?

WHAT WAS THE LAST CONCERT YOU SAW?
