WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN CHARLOTTE AREA?
TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?
I am originally from Fayetteville North Carolina. I am an only child and was the only grandchild for 16 years. I am a 2014 graduate from North Carolina Central University where I received a Bachelors in Social Work. I am also a 2016 graduate from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke where I obtained a Masters in Social Work. Directly after college, I moved to Charlotte, NC and have been working with The Department of Social Services for the past three years. In 2016, I was crowned Miss Black Triangle USA and dedicated a lot of service to my alma mater NCCU by serving the Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh community. Directly after completing my title, I was crowned Miss North Carolina US Continental serving all communities in North Carolina with a focus in the Charlotte community. Since working in my career and gaining a love for helping children and families, I created two social media platforms that are dear to my heart. My first platform is The RoyalTEA project, with the acronym T.E.A for teach a Queen, educate a community, achieve a goal. Secondly, in March of 2019, I launched my second platform The SocialworkHER, encouraging women and girls to find a path in social work and the be a safe haven for women in the social work field to network. Since then, I have continued to shape my platforms to help teens in the Mecklenburg community to face their fears and conquer their goals.
DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT?
During my time of volunteering in the community, my most memorable moment was feeding the homeless. It was close to night and I and a few volunteers were passing out lunch bags for Hashtag Lunch Bag in Uptown Charlotte. I met a men who stated he had not eaten in 3 days and was very grateful for the lunch bag. He begins telling me about his life and how he became homeless. We had a heart to heart and connected in such short time. I prayed for him before leaving and he asked for a hug and stated that no one had ever sat and listened to him before.
IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY? PLEASE BE AS DETAILED AS YOU CAN.
I have contributed to my community in many ways. I am a Big Brother Big Sister for the Greater Charlotte, where I mentor a young girl biweekly and have been a Big for 3 years. I also volunteer with the Junior Academy of Gastonia yearly for their day of service at J.M. Sadler. During this day of service, we educate elementary student on making wise decisions on money and saving. After educating, we donate supplies and money to the school from donations given throughout the year. I have volunteered with EmpowHERment Inc. for their Empowerment Summit at East Mecklenburg High School two years in a row. I volunteer with Hashtag Lunch Bag to pack lunch boxes at Johnson C. Smith and go to uptown Charlotte to feed the homeless once a month. I also volunteer with Charlotte Alumni Chapter of North Carolina Central University for monthly events in Charlotte NC and showing truth and service as I was taught by NCCU. Additionally, through my year of reigning Miss Black Triangle USA 2016-2017 and Miss North Carolina US Continental 2018, I have devoted my time to teaching young girls how to carry themselves, continuing their education, and reaching their goals. During my reign, I volunteered with Durham and Mecklenburg County School System, volunteer for Black August in the Park in Durham, NC, volunteered for the “My Hero Gala” sponsored by Charlotte Hornets, spoke at The African American of Blacks in Higher Education Conference, hosted “Stop Bully, Speak Out in partnership with Unique Alternative Inc., and was a guest speaker for NATAIgirl Inc. in Fayetteville, NC. Through all of these experiences, I have gained a tremendous love and passion for helping my community.
