Featured Culinary//Arts Collaborators:
Chef Bruce Moffett grew up in Barrington, Rhode Island. After earning a degree in political science from the University of Rhode Island and briefly working the political circuit in D.C., Bruce decided his true passion lied in the culinary arts. He was later formally trained at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA). After graduating from CIA with honors, Bruce gained restaurant experience in both Atlanta and Boston. Most notably, he worked in the kitchen at two of Boston’s most prestigious restaurants, L’Espalier and Metropolis Cafe. In 2000, Bruce moved to Charlotte to be closer to family and opened his own restaurant, Barrington’s. He has been the Executive Chef ever since and was recognized as a James Beard Foundation Best Chef Southeast Nominee in 2009. In 2013, Bruce expanded his culinary reign in Charlotte by launching Moffett Restaurant Group, which oversees three restaurants. Bruce is looking forward to opening two more restaurants this spring, one in Plaza Midwood and one at Optimist Hall.
Chef Alyssa Wilen, a native Charlottean, founded Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen in 2013 with her husband Andrew after working over 12 years in the restaurant industry. She has taught some of the country’s most popular cooking classes and most recently moved in to a new custom facility in Lower South End. Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen now offers catering Monday-Friday and brunch on Saturday mornings. Along with teaching classes and summer culinary camps, Alyssa also has a condiment line that can be found in boutique stores in the region.
