May the Funk Be With You

In a galaxy, very, very close… is our original brewery, where our sour beers come to life. Our Jedis (AKA brewers) are bringing the funk to you for one extra-sour day!


Snag your ticket to this funky celebration for just $10 (plus fees)*, which includes:




  • One Boba Brett glass




  • One toast pour of a surprise sour beer




  • A free tour — emphasis on the sour brewing process — of our original brewery at 3 pm




  • Access to never-before-seen sours and some of our classic favorites (14 total sours, plus two seltzers!)




*Tickets are not required for entry, but are the only way to guarantee Boba Brett glassware (as it may sell out on the day-of event).


While you’re here, enjoy live music from Matt Virgil, grab grub from the Papi Queso food truck, and enter to win a Boba Brett crowler or one of the 12 bottles of Funkaversary (popular collaboration brew with New Belgium from 2013) from our cellar. Raffle tickets are $5 each and ALL proceeds go Whales for Wishes, an amazing local non-profit that supports Make-A-Wish through rare beer auctions and events.


SOURS ON TAP:




  1. Boba Brett | 6.7% ABV





    • American wild ale that serves as the base beer for a number of our sour offerings.  Aged for a year in oak foeders with a complex blend of brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus.  With notes of tropical fruit, melon, barnyard funk, and tartness, this beer was the beginning of our sour program.





  2. Lacto Calrissian | 6.5% ABV





    • Golden Sour Ale brewed with 100% local Epiphany malt, NC Triticale (hybrid wheat/rye malt), and oats.  Aged in an oak foeder for a year on a special blend of lactobacillus and brettanomyces.  Lactic tartness reigns over a complex farmhouse funk.





  3. Berliner Weisse | 3.5% ABV





    • Our take on a classic Berliner, brewed with spelt and fermented on a mixed culture of brettanomyces and lactobacillus, giving it some barnyard funk with tropical, fruity tartness.





  4. Respect Your Elderflower | 4% ABV





    • Gose brewed with 100% local Epiphany malt, pink Himalayan sea salt and dried elderflower.  Like all of our goses, we used a blend of Burlington Ale yeast with Lactobacillus. Light, tart, and sweet.





  5. Cranberry Gose | 4% ABV





    • Gose brewed with nearly 50% wheat malt, sea salt, and refermented on cranberry puree.  Like all of our goses, we used a blend of Burlington Ale yeast with Lactobacillus. Light, sweet, and tart.





  6. Guava Brett | 7% ABV





    • Our base sour ale refermented on guava, adding some sweetness and highlighting the tropical fruity notes already present in Boba.





  7. Boba Brett’s GaLACTIC Trip | 4% ABV





    • A special blend made up of our base sour ale with a new Berliner Weiss, adding a lot of lactic tartness to an already funky beer.  Brewed with local NC Triticale (hybrid wheat/rye malt).





  8. Welcome to the Farmhouse | 5.3%





    • Farmhouse Ale brewed with spelt (an ancient grain), refermented on the blackberries and brett culture used for our Blackberry Boba Brett bottle release in 2018.  Complex fruit and barnyard notes.





  9. The Currant Funk w/ Raspberries | 7% ABV





    • Our sour base, aged for a year in oak foeders with then refermented on currants and raspberries with a mixed culture of wild yeast harvested from Welcome to the Farmhouse. Sweet and funky.





  10. Stop, Collaborate and Glisten | 8.9% ABV





    • Our 2016 collaboration with Night Shift Brewing. A sparkling golden ale fermented in wine barrels with Sauvignon Blanc grape must and a blend of wild yeast strains, included Sacc Trois (formally Brett Trois).





  11. Pour L’amour | 6.2% ABV





    • Saison brewed with NC Triticale and torrefied wheat malt.  Aged for a year in oak barrels on a blend of brettanomyces.  Crisp with pure farmhouse funk.





  12. Crandaddy | 6.2% ABV





    • Saison brewed with Epiphany malt and aged for a year in wine barrels on brettanomyces, then refermented on cranberry puree.





  13. Lupulin Farm | 6.2% ABV





    • Saison brewed with Epiphany malt and aged for a year in wine barrels on brettanomyces, then dry hopped with one pound per barrel each of Citra and Hallertau Blanc.





  14. Ancient Funk | 5.2% ABV





    • Saison brewed with spelt, an ancient species of wheat cultivated since approximately 5000 BC.  Aged for a year in oak barrels on brettanomyces.





  15. Brizo Seltzer – Raspberry Lemon | 4.85% ABV





    • Craft spiked seltzer sitting at 108 calories and 3 carbs.  Refermented on raspberry puree and lemon peel.





  16. Brizo Seltzer – Ginger Lime | 4.85% ABV





    • Craft spiked seltzer sitting at 108 calories and 3 carbs.  Conditioned on ginger and lime juice.
