Company: WIMS Consulting
Position: Business Analyst
WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN CHARLOTTE AREA?
A little over 2 years
TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?
I grew up in Athens, Georgia playing any and every sport you can think of. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to play quarterback in college for the University of Miami and UNCC. I attended Miami for 3 years, where I completed my undergrad degree in finance with a minor in business law. I immediately moved up to Charlotte to continue my collegiate football career and pursue an MBA at UNCC. I finished my last football season along with the MBA program in December 2019.
Following graduation, I secured a job with WIMS Consulting as a Business Analyst. Instead of starting work in January, I decided to buy a one-way ticket to Australia. For the next 6 weeks, I backpacked around Australia with the goal of recharging and contemplating what I wanted to do with my life after football came to a close. After returning to Charlotte at the beginning of summer, I have been working, networking, and getting involved with the community in any way possible.
DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT?
Last spring, I volunteered for an organization called The 2nd and 7 Foundation which connects athletes with elementary school students to stress the importance of education. Every other week, I would read to the same second grade class at Weddington Hills Elementary. At the end of the year, I met the students at their field day to celebrate the schoolyear. The class made a booklet with pictures and handwritten letters from each student expressing how fun the semester had been with me. I’ll never forget how that made me feel. I volunteered for them without realizing how much of an impact they would have on me. With everything going on in the world currently, I can’t help but smile thinking about those kids and how the future is in good hands as long as the kids keep those kind and loving spirits as they grow up.
IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY? PLEASE BE AS DETAILED AS YOU CAN.
I have been fortunate to have the platform through college football to get involved with the community and strive to make a difference, especially with kids. The 2nd and 7 Foundation and Team IMPACT are two organizations that I have enjoyed volunteering for. Before the season got moved to the spring, I also was planning on helping coach football at a local high school to provide guidance and advice to young athletes. I have a few other things in the works that have been curtailed by the pandemic, but I hope to get those back on track as the dust settles.
