WHERE WERE YOU BORN?

Sylva, NC.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN CHARLOTTE AREA?

Almost 7 years.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?

God is my Savior. Big Tarheel fan! I played baseball for 9 years as a kid. Love taking photos of people and helping the world see their beauty instead of their flaws. I’ve worked for BMG at Blackfinn for almost 7 years. I am an avid lover of spin class and working out. Playing with my rescue dogs Cash & Sue. Both boys for who gets the reference! I work a lot and enjoy spending time with friends. Sugar Creek Brewery is my favorite place to hang out and enjoy a cold one. I’m currently working on expanding my photography business, helping folks realize their potential, and spending my free time photographing animals that need to be adopted. I hope to be a positive role model for kids growing up. One day to be successful in a life full of family, friends, and lots of puppies.

DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORIAL MOMENT?

I volunteered last summer, as well as this summer, to donate photography to the families and volunteers of Camp Horizon- A down syndrome summer camp that is put on every summer for one week. It is amazing to see how happy the kids are to have a little summer getaway. They love the photoshoot we setup for them at the end of the week. Makes them feel like movie stars! My favorite moment was a few of the kids kept wanting to help and show their friends how to pose or get them to smile. The wanted to help me help them. The feeling was undeniably incredible.
Another wonderful moment was back at Ronald McDonald House, we spent Thanksgiving Day cooking for the entire home. We made crafts with the kids, took photos of families that had never had family portraits, and got to know everyone over dinner. The best moment was having a deaf and blind child reach out to me and smile. I was taking his photo and helping him with crafts. He had put in hearing aids that helped him hear mixed sounds and a little of what we were saying to him. He lifted his head up and smiled when I told him we say “CHEESE” for photos. His mom and I both fell into tears with his reaction. Best Thanksgiving ever!

IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY?

I like to think I help people see something in themselves they can’t see. I utilize social media and my own life to show my personal flaws. Show how you are strong because of those things and not weak. I’m very blessed to know a lot of people and be in a small spotlight in the restaurant industry. I want other girls and women, in particular, to know its ok to not be perfect. Its ok to take your time and find out what you want in life. It’s ok to have cellulite and eat pizza occasionally. You can still maintain who you are without the reflections of everyone else on you.

I like to donate my photography services or personal time to things like Camp Horizon, animal shelters, or the LGBT community in bringing awareness to these groups. I’ll be working with Pride this year using my skills with photography and social media to help blast love instead of hate. I believe with the way this world is going, we need more positive role models. Leaders instead of dictators. Kids need more positivity and less judgement when it comes to being themselves. Think about how great we all feel with a compliment or being recognized for the things we work so hard for? Imagine how you would feel. At the end of the day, a person will never forget how you made them feel.

At my day job, I help people who don’t have consistent work, a home to go to, or just lend an ear and be work mom. You should always have a place that feels like family. We are lucky enough to run a business that makes everyone feel at home. It may be just a restaurant, but we help kids who have been kicked out of their house earn an income. Coach them on knowing they can instead of can’t. Give an ear or lending hand. I’ve even seen my general manager take money from his own wallet and give it to employees to aid in paying their bills and rent. We do so much more than serve food. We serve others. So many of the people who come in need more than just a job.

Another aspect of my day job is helping host charitable events. We once helped raise over $400 with Sam Adams Pour It Forward with my company to donate money and a beer to all our Veterans. It was amazing to assist in promoting an event like this.

Greg Olsen hosted the Heartest Yard within our four walls. We helped him to raise over $10,000 and ended up donating all the food to the event. We did it as a team. It was amazing to be part of such a magical night knowing that the folks I work next to and myself, helped raise awareness with such a rare condition. The community came together, and we pulled the whole thing off with no power!
