Alina Abedin

Company: Synechron
Position: Digital Business Analyst
Age: 22

WHERE WERE YOU BORN?

Florence, SC.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN CHARLOTTE AREA?

I moved nearby for college (Rock Hill) and lived there for 4 years, but I officially moved to Charlotte last May 2017.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?

My name is Alina. I had a interesting upbringing. I grew up in a small town in South Carolina with a population of 500 people. My family was the only minority in this town. I think being different than everyone else is what allowed me to unleash my creativity. I went from being a shy, timid teenager into a confident, ambitious woman.

I am passionate about my career, helping others and experiencing everything life has to offer.
Currently, I am a Digital Business Analyst at Synechron, one of the fastest-growing digital, business consulting and technology firms in the world. When I am not working, I enjoy exploring Charlotte. There’s always something to discover in this city. I enjoy immersing myself in social events and meeting new people.

DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORIAL MOMENT?

I think the most memorable moment was the very first time I volunteered. I was still in high school and I volunteered at a senior home with my class. I was able to put a smile on these people’s faces, just by talking to them. A resident told me that a person with a heart like mine can accomplish absolutely anything they desire. The senior home staff kept saying we were helping the residents but in reality, they helped me realize my passion for helping the community.

IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY?

I contribute to the community in many ways. I am involved in several organizations that help the community and focus on different causes. I am a lead fundraiser for March of Dimes (which works to improve the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality). I am involved with the Robbie Page Memorial Fund at the UNC Chapel Hill Hospital which supports a cutting-edge therapy called “therapeutic play.” This treatment is one of the most important types of children’s therapy to help children cope with the treatments and outcomes of their illnesses. I have been able to visit these children several times. I also volunteer with Levine’s Children Hospital (my niece is a patient here). I did an internship with a non-profit organization for victims of domestic abuse. I helped re-brand the organization and raised money for these victims. These are just a few of the causes I am involved in.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OR INTEREST?

Volunteering, creative writing, reading, music and concerts, traveling, cutting edge technology, fashion and beauty.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE THAT YOU STAND BY?

“The greatest challenge in life is discovering who you are. The second greatest is being happy with what you find.”

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?

I see myself as the queen of the Queen City of course! Just kidding! I really see myself have deep expertise in marketing and using my creativity to lead an organization and other employees to success. In 10 years, I see myself as a role model and game changer in the industry and in my community. I also see myself having a family and being a world traveler.

CAN YOUR SHARE ONE THING THAT IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?

As silly as it sounds, I think it would be awesome to be an extra in a movie.
I can see it now, Channing Tatum’s character bumps into me on the street. End Alina scene.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU USED YOUR PASSPORT?

When I was 2 years old. I know…it’s crazy. However, this year that is going to change. I plan on jet setting all over Asia and Europe this year.

WHAT IS A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT NO ONE KNOWS?

I’m a pretty open book, so I am not sure if there is something NO ONE knows. I have been to over 60 concerts. I’m not sure if many people know that.

WHO IS YOUR HERO?

My hero is my niece Sofia. Sofia was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2016 at the age of 7. As an aunt, it was an absolute nightmare watching my beautiful, innocent niece battle cancer. Sofia’s treatment has lasted for a total of nearly 2.5 years. Sofia has taken on her treatment with bravery and optimism. Our favorite quote that seems to sum Sofia up perfectly is “though she be but little, she is fierce”. Her positivity is an inspiration to me.
