TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?

I am a passionate reporter, empathetic person and I don’t take myself too seriously. I am very goofy and outgoing. I moved to Charlotte not knowing a soul, and today it feels like home. I love to read and I stay active by supporting locally owned gyms. I also love traveling to the mountains in Asheville and the beach.

DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT?

I taught classes for a group of women at a women’s shelter called “Steps to Success”. I taught these women how to construct their resumes, interviewing/work etiquette, interview preparedness and networking. The goal of this was to give these women the skills to be independent. Many of them came out of abusive relationships, and always relied on someone else financially. I will never forget a woman who took my class gave me a hug after and with tears in her eyes, said she was so excited to have the ability to take care of herself.

IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY? PLEASE BE AS DETAILED AS YOU CAN.

I chose my career in journalism for the purpose of public service. I believe a well-informed electorate is the key to democracy. Therefore, I take informing the public extremely seriously. I am out in the streets covering severe weather, protests, elections, municipal government and the violence in our city. This is not a job you do for the money, you do it to help people. Every person has a story and it is my duty to tell theirs. Through my stories, I have helped reunite a family separated for 40 years, helped raise money for a cancer stricken woman who couldn’t afford the prosthetic leg she desperately needed. I’ve held our city leaders accountable for the mishandling of a deadly officer-involved shooting and called them out when there is lack of transparency.
