WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN CHARLOTTE AREA?
TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?
Graduated from High Point University in 2013 with a B.A in Strategic Communications and currently a graduate student pursuing a M.S in Sports Administration at the University of Miami. I am the youngest of 5 children originally from New Jersey and moved to North Carolina in 2009 and fell in love. I competed in the 2014 Miss North Carolina USA pageant as Miss Greensboro USA. In 2015, I was Miss Black North Carolina US Ambassador 2015 and during Nationals won the People’s Choice Award and placed in the top 15. I have a 1-year old black lab mix named Rokk, love food, and die-hard Philadelphia Eagles and UNC-Chapel Hill fan.
DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORIAL MOMENT?
My most memorable moment as Miss Black North Carolina US Ambassador was being able to host my own event, Love Yourz-Queens Reaching Queens. I was able work with small business owners for over $2000 worth of donations; connect with community leaders for insight on the issue of youth depression awareness in schools and reigning pageant queens to share their stories at the event. I am forever humbled by the opportunity to be able to provide the seniors who attended the event not only a small graduating gift but essential life lessons on the next steps in their journey.
IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY?
During my time in undergrad, I can remember feeling as though I would be purposeless without playing sports. Little did I know with the help of my mentor that my purpose would be to help others through encouragement. I contribute to my community by being able to tell my story of depression transparently as a platform to help inspire others to not be ashamed of suffering from depression and anxiety.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OR INTEREST?
Reading, spending time with family and friends, playing with my puppy, watching sports, hmmm… and napping!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE THAT YOU STAND BY?
“The true test of a (wo) men character is what he does when no one is watching”- John Wooden.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?
Completely finished with my education… An established career with a professional sports team or within the ACC conference… Married with a family.
CAN YOUR SHARE ONE THING THAT IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?
Attend the Super Bowl and watch the Philadelphia Eagles [actually] win.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU USED YOUR PASSPORT?
Goodness, wouldn’t even be able to tell you! I think the last time was in 7th grade to go on a cruise with my parents.
WHAT IS A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT NO ONE KNOWS?
In high school, as a punishment for missing track practice for prom I was thrown into the 800 meters with no experience. Little did I know (and tried to talk my way out every time) that I would become a 2013 Mercer Country Champion in the 800 meters and qualify for the Regional championships…Some punishment huh?
WHO IS YOUR HERO?
I wouldn’t be able to just pick one but my parents are my heroes. There has never been a time where I could not rely on my parents. They have both taught me the most valuable lessons about love, handwork, living your life for YOU.
