TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?
I grew up in a small town called Cumberland Gap, but this career as a news reporter has given me the opportunity to live around the country. After some stints interning in Kentucky and Chicago, I spent time reporting in a couple of towns in Texas. After that, it was off to Oklahoma City where I found myself reporting on tornados, in the middle of wildfires. My report after witnessing the botched execution there in 2014 made headlines worldwide. Now that I am reporting in Charlotte, I am closer to family. They bring out the softer side of me. I love a good joke and a funny prank. That’s likely the result of years of aggravation from my older brother and sister.
DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORIAL MOMENT?
Maybe this is so memorable because I was terrified to do it: learning how to dance in a matter of weeks and, with the help of my amazingly talented partner, winning the Dancing for Cystic Fibrosis charity event! It was exhilarating, and the community really came together to donate to the cause.
IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY?
Any given night, you will find me on your television reporting in front of the yellow crime tape for WCCB News. In Charlotte, I focus most of my work on crime and civil issues. From the growing local murder rate, police shootings, to public accommodations for the LGBT community, I am working to give you information to make sophisticated decisions. I want to understand the city’s struggles and help people tackle those issues with as much information as possible to create real change.
