TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?

I am the founder and executive director of Eustress, Inc., a nonprofit that raises mental health awareness through initiatives dedicated to breaking the stigma associated with mental health and mental illness. I am also currently a student, and pursuing a graduate degree in mental health counseling.
I founded Eustress after experiencing my own mental health issues, with the goal of sharing my story to help others like myself who might be suffering in silence. Since then, I have worked with various schools and organizations to put on programs that break down barriers that prevent constructive conversations and much needed awareness for mental health issues. I use my upbringing in the poorer, rural area of North Carolina and my experiences both as a student and an athlete at a prestigious university to connect with different people, no matter what journey they may be on. I hope that through my work, I can help everyone improve and protect their mental health, and help those living with mental illness to have more good days than they do bad.

DURING YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING FOR A COMMUNITY ACTIVITY OR PROJECT, WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORIAL MOMENT?

One of my college classmates created a mentoring program for elementary school boys. Some of my most memorable volunteer moments have occurred while speaking to these gentlemen and connecting with them on different levels to address their mental health needs. The fact that they feel comfortable with me and that they feel they have a voice that will be heard and understood when talking to me is very rewarding.

IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY?

I contribute to the community by showing individuals of all ages that mental illness is not something that we should be ashamed of, and that mental health should be regarded with just as much importance as physical health. I work daily to break the stigma and teach people about ways to identify their issues and how to live with them effectively.
I also contribute to the community by using my own experiences to help others, whether as a coach, mentor, advocate, or simply as a member of the community supporting various causes and events.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OR INTEREST?

I enjoy working out and playing sports. Whenever I have ample time, I enjoy hiking and being outside.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE THAT YOU STAND BY?

“I’ve been through mad different phases like mazes, to find my way. And now I know that happy days are not far away” -

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?

I see myself transforming views of mental illness and mental health on a national level. As a practicing Mental Health Counselor, I see myself working with people to understand the importance of maintaining their mental health in communities that are normally hindered by stigma and a lack of knowledge.
